In September 2019, Noel Grealish - an Irish Independent politician who has been a TD (an Irish MP) since 2002 - faced criticism and calls to resign after he made comments about asylum seekers in Ireland.
More specifically, Grealish described all African asylum seekers as "spongers."
This angered me greatly something which compelled me to write a letter to the editor of The Connacht Tribune which was duly published:
